چکیده

Background: Postural orthostatic tachycardia syndrome (POTS) is a heterogeneous condition predominantly affecting autonomic control of the cardiovascular system. Its extensive symptom diversity implies multi-organ involvement that interacts in ways still requiring full exploration. Current understanding POTS pathophysiology suggests alterations renin–angiotensin–aldosterone system as possible contributing factor. Therefore, we investigated relationship between activity and hemodynamic parameters cohort patients controls recruited at tertiary referral center. Methods: The case-control study included 46 with (27 ± 9 years), 48 healthy (30 years) without intolerance. Plasma renin activity, expressed angiotensin I generation, plasma aldosterone were measured by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay correlated obtained during active standing tests. Results: Renin was significantly downregulated compared to individuals (median, 3406 ng/mL vs. 9949 ng/mL, p < 0.001), whereas concentration did not differ 218 pmol/L pmol/L, = 0.26). A significant inverse correlation supine blood pressure levels observed (p 0.05 for all), but patients. Conclusions: concentration, POTS. Moreover, dissociated from contrast individuals. These findings suggest impaired function POTS, which may direct future therapeutic approaches.

Orthostatic intolerance can be defi ned as inability to tolerate upright posture relieved by recumbence. Postural orthostatic tachycardia syndrome (POTS) is a form of orthostatic intolerance defi ned as sustained increase in heart rate of ≥30 bpm or increase of heart rate to ≥120 bpm within 10 min of standing or head-up tilt associated with symptoms of orthostatic intolerance and absence of ort...

Peptides in Postural Orthostatic Tachycardia Syndrome

Recently, increasing attention has been directed toward better understanding the physiological role and clinical importance of a wide range of endogenously released vasoactive peptides. The most well known of these are B-type natriuretic peptide (BNP) and atrial natriuretic peptide (ANP) (1–4). However, others have also attracted attention, including C-type natriuretic peptide, vasoactive intes...

Sleep Characteristics in Postural Orthostatic Tachycardia Syndrome

Study Objectives: Patients with Postural Orthostatic Tachycardia Syndrome (POTS) complain of difficulties with sleep dysfunction. This study characterizes sleep architecture and Alpha-Delta sleep (ADS) in patients with POTS. Methods: Patients diagnosed with POTS with reported daytime sleepiness were evaluated by polysomnography (women=100%; mean age= 34.3; range 25-55). Measurements included nu...

Postural orthostatic tachycardia syndrome following Lyme disease.

BACKGROUND A subgroup of patients suffering from Lyme disease (LD) may initially respond to antibiotics only to later develop a syndrome of fatigue, joint pain and cognitive dysfunction referred to as 'post treatment LD syndrome'. We report on a series of patients who developed autonomic dysfunction in the form of postural orthostatic tachycardia syndrome (POTS). METHODS All of the patients i...

Postural orthostatic tachycardia syndrome: Dental treatment considerations.

BACKGROUND Postural orthostatic tachycardia syndrome (POTS) is a chronic, relatively common autonomic disorder typically affecting younger females. It is distinguished by a dramatic increase in heart rate on the assumption of an upright posture from the supine position. METHODS The authors provide an overview of the demographics, clinical assessment, diagnostic features, differential diagnose...
